Metroid Prime 4 Is Good… But Prime 1 and 2 Still Hit Harder
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
I finally spent enough time with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond to form a real opinion and honestly, I still prefer the original two.
I didn’t even finish Prime 4. I stopped a little before the halfway point.
That doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s polished. Combat feels tighter. The new Geohid enemies are genuinely better designed and more dynamic than many encounters in the older games.
But something feels… missing.
When I first played Metroid Prime on the GameCube, the atmosphere was unreal. The music was haunting and timeless. Every area felt mysterious and dangerous. There was a constant “wow” factor like you were discovering something ancient and alien.
Prime 4 feels technically stronger, but emotionally flatter.
The soundtrack is solid, but not memorable.
The world design is fine, but it doesn’t hit with the same awe.
The atmosphere doesn’t linger after you stop playing.
Maybe it’s nostalgia.
Maybe expectations were too high.
Or maybe Prime 1 and 2 just captured lightning in a bottle.
I’m curious:
- Did Prime 4 live up to the legacy for you?
- Do you prefer the original Prime era?
- Or is this just nostalgia talking?
